La escritura en español: Pensamiento y Palabra
La escritura es la expresión de nuestros pensamientos, sentimientos, y voz. Escribimos para comunicar nuestras ideas. Como maestros, modelamos el proceso de la escritura y creamos un ambiente en el cual la escritura es una experiencia divertida que valora y respeta el esfuerzo de cada autor.
En el contexto de la enseñanza en dos idiomas, la escritura no solamente es esencial para el éxito académico, sino también es una herramienta poderosa que facilita el desarrollo del lenguaje. Las opciones y tareas de escritura se asignan para optimizar la instrucción y aprender como funciona cada idioma.
Durante este instituto repasaremos la escritura basada en los estándares, utilizando textos mentores y lecturas como trampolín hacia la escritura. Practicaremos numerosas estrategias para el andamiaje de la escritura y exploraremos la escritura para promover el desarrollo lingüístico y cognitivo de nuestros estudiantes. Analizaremos textos escritos por estudiantes para discernir el progreso de lenguaje y escritura en ambos idiomas y determinar próximos pasos en la enseñanza.
Juntos disfrutaremos de estrategias para responder crítica y creativamente a la literatura auténtica, a textos informativos y el poder dinámico de la argumentación.

Writing in Spanish: Thought and Expression
Above all, writing is an expression of thought, voice, and identity. We write to communicate our ideas. As teachers, we model the writing process and create an environment where writing is an enjoyable experience and authorship is honored.
In a Dual Language context, writing is a powerful tool for learning a language and is essential for academic success. Writing options and tasks are allocated to maximize instruction across languages.
During the institute we will review standard-based writing, using mentor texts and reading as a springboard to writing. We will review and practice numerous strategies for scaffolding writing and exploring writing to promote language and cognitive development. We will engage in cross-linguistic text analysis of student writing to discern students’ biliteracy trajectories and inform instruction.
Together we will enjoy strategies for responding creatively and critically to authentic Spanish literature, heartfelt narratives, and the power dynamic in argumentation.
