Day 1

Pre-Institute Sessions:
-New Program Institute for new teachers and administrators *

The Pre-Conference Institutes provide a foundation in the basic elements of Two-Way Bilingual Immersion education. These sessions are intended for educators new to the field, program planners and school board members engaged in the planning of new programs, and/or the veteran TWBI educators working on the realignment of their existing TWBI/DL programs. The institutes provide specific TWBI program information, a review of the critical features, rationale, and research to assist you in your work at your schools or districts.

While new programs and special interest groups gather for the pre-institutes, concurrent workshops are offered for teachers and administrators who are experienced in TWBI and wish to delve into methodology and best practices. Lunch is made available in the lobby of the convention center and is “on your own” so that you are ready to hear the Opening General Session at 1:00 pm and continue to afternoon sessions.

-26th Year Celebration Dinner Dance (Semi-formal)

This day focuses on providing participants with information and resources to support the implementation of their target language. Master teachers and administrators will share strategies, materials, curriculum units of study with teachers to support the implementation of your Two-Way Bilingual Immersion classroom and program. The 26th Year Celebration Dinner Dance will be a semi-formal affair so come prepared with your lovely attire and dancing shoes! It should be a wonderful night out in Long Beach!

The third day of this conference offers workshops and sessions focused on the delivery of Academic English Language Development and strategies to promote student development in reading, writing, speaking and listening in both the target language and English. Master teachers will share their strategies!

About The Conference

ATDLE is proud to host the 26th Annual Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Conference, February 1-3, 2018 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA. This year’s theme: “The Pride and Promise of Biliteracy” captures the commitment made by thousands of Two-Way and Dual Language educators across the United States. This year, over 1500 Two-Way & Dual Language Educators will travel into Long Beach to study, network and share best practices for three days and celebrate the great work that is taking place in their respective communities. The conference is designed for elementary, middle and high school educators as many of the Dual Language programs have developed into the secondary level. We look forward to working with you and your team of colleagues as you gather to work with program experts. We know that this unique national conference designed exclusively for Two-Way and Dual Language educators will prove to be the highlight of your professional training this year!

Pre-Conference Institutes

Registration Fees

All participants and presenters must register online through the Regonline System in order to receive name badges and additional conference items. We are unable to accept paper or faxed registrations. If you have questions about registration please call the ATDLE office at 831-464-4898 or send your inquiry to registration@atdle.org.

  • Early Registration is August 21 – November 15, 2017 = $585 registration only
  • Regular Registration (November 16- February 1, 2017) – or until the conference registration closes) = $615.00
  • Pre-Conference Institutes only – non-attendee = $ 100.00• Pre-Conference Institutes only – non-attendee = $ 100.00
  • Early Registration: Pre-Conference Institute & Registration = $665.00
  • Late Registration: Pre-Conference Institute & Registration = $695.00
  • Student Teacher Fee for student teachers without a contract in 2017-18 = $180.00
  • Teams of 10 teachers or more registering together from one district on the same day (August – November 15, 2017) = $575.00.

Group discounts expire on November 15, 2017

Registration payment must be received on or before November 15, 2017 5:00 pm in order to be accepted into the conference with the early registration rate.

Registration Policy

All Attendees must register online whether they pay by check or credit card. All funds must be received by January 17, 2018. Any registrations with unpaid balances as of January 17, 2018 will be released to other potential attendees.

Purchase Order Policy

All purchase orders must be paid in full by January 17, 2018 in order for an attendee’s registration spot to be guaranteed and not released to other potential attendees.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and substitutions can be made from your confirmation email. There will be no refunds for cancellations made after December 20, 2017. We adhere closely to this policy because of the pre-ordering of meals and materials for our attendees.

Meals

The price of registration includes the following five meals and participants must indicate which meals they will partake in as part of the registration process. This is a new process has been enacted this year in an attempt to reduce wasting and pre-ordering food unnecessarily. All participants must show their badges to enter and be served at each meal event.

Thursday – February 1, 2018  No sit-down meals are provided on Thursday. However, lunch kiosks at the convention center, hotel restaurants and nearby restaurants are available within walking distance of the convention center to accommodate our attendees.

Friday – February 2, 2018  Three meals are provided to participants on this day: A continental morning breakfast during the Keynote Session. A ticket to the TWBI Award Luncheon and a ticket to the Annual Dinner and Dance is included in the price of registration.

Saturday, February 3, 2018  Two meals will be served on this day: a continental breakfast and a ticket to the Networking Luncheon. We ask that all participants come to this luncheon with their business cards to network with teachers and administrators from other districts.

30 Wonderful Exhibitors and Sponsors

The top 30 exhibitors from throughout the U.S. with trade books, software and curriculum materials for Two-Way and Dual Language Programs will be invited to display their materials and curriculums for you to review and purchase. Bring POs or district/personal checks to purchase materials. We have asked the companies to focus on bringing materials for target language instruction in the target language (Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese), AELD, cultural competence, common core instruction, literature, software and technology that can be used in TWBI/DL schools and programs.

Please have your date and time of arrival, date and time of departure, where you’d like to rent the car and what class of car you’d like to drive in mind. A credit card is not needed at the time you make the reservation, but will need to be present when you rent the car. A debit card will be accepted at the Airport location only and you must have a return flight itinerary with it. Driver’s License and credit or debit card name must match. If you are returning to a different location than the one you rented the car from, a one way fee may apply.
